I disagree. If more people knew what it cost financially to (successfully) raise children, then looked at their own bottom line they might be inclined to not have kids.

Or at least have fewer kids.

As for tax breaks, yeah they're nice, but there's absolutely no way they'd equal the amount it takes to raise children.

$ is still a convincing argument, IMO.
